SHOOT FILM, DON’T GO BROKE

World-renowned services combining years of laboratory experience with top-of-the-line scanning hardware, the Lasergraphics 6.5K HDR Scanstation, for a killer price. We have handled millions of feet of film from clients all over the world!

16/35 Color Negative is now being processed IN-HOUSE. Reversal and is still using select, trusted 3rd party labs. We run most of our Super8 volume on our new machine as well but we’re training some backup techs to help with this because we often receive several hundred rolls a week and it’s a very labor-intensive format that requires a lot of time in the darkroom just to set up to run.

Please expect about 4-7 business days for 16/35 color negative (this will quickly get faster now that we’re running it in house. For Super8, reversal or black and white please expect about 3-4 weeks

THE SECRET SAUCE
(a better scanning method)

  • Your scans are always sampled from the full 6.5K resolution sensor, which allows for true 2K and 4K scans with no cheated resolutions! Oversampling also results in reduced aliasing and sensor noise

  • Overscanning is delivered at higher resolutions to preserve the optical resolution of the image area. So a 2K overscan is actually 2.5K, for example

  • All color correction is done in post in order to maximize the quality and accuracy of the process

  • HDR is used on every scan. I’ve worked with Lasergraphics to author custom software with unique settings for the best extraction of your film’s contrast range. The results go beyond most other HDR processes that are offered by other services, even those that use the same scanner model!

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

COLOR CORRECTION

  • Flat / Log. Low contrast, low saturation scanning that requires post-color work. Black and white points are still tweaked on a per-film basis to ensure that all data is being recorded properly

  • Best Light. Color and contrast are carefully optimized in post with a single correction per reel, including gamma, saturation, and balance. Custom sharpening methods applied if desired

  • Timed. Color and contrast are carefully optimized in post with multiple corrections per reel, including gamma, saturation, and balance. Custom sharpening methods applied if desired

CLEANING

Includes leader, splice check, repair, and hand clean. Multiple camera loads may be consolidated onto larger reels or cores for more reliable scanning. This adds $3 per roll of film regardless of length

CROPPING

Exact resolutions depend on origination format and desired cropping to optimize the optical resolution of the scan

TURNAROUND TIME

  • 16mm or 35mm color negative in need of development usually requires about 4-7 business days

  • Super8 and reversal film in need of development usually requires about 3-4 weeks

  • Most production scans of newly shot, already developed material can be completed in 1-2 weeks depending on size and complexity of options such as color correction. We always recommend sending your film here first for processing!

  • Archival scanning usually requires more handling time due to more rigorous cleaning and repair. Expect usually several months for archival jobs

  • Experimental film usually requires rigorous cleaning of the scanning machine. Expect usually several months for archival jobs

  • Old home movies are currently paused
